Portable XRF Analyzers

Problem/Challenge Bridge Production
With the only European Trade show of the year just 2 weeks away, Niton Corp., the internationally recognized leader in portable metallurgical analysis equipment had just completed the design of their newest product. It was critical to the success of the Portable XRF analyzer that the product be introduced at this event.

Solutions/Results Rapid Tooling
Niton immediately called General Pattern to build its prototypes for two important reasons. One, with 13 sterolithography (SL) and 4 selective laser sintering (SLS) machines, we were the only company with the capacity required to meet the two week delivery. Two, General Pattern’s proprietary production representative polyurethane molding technique, including molded in color and texture, meant the units would have the look, feel and function of production components.

Benefit/Impact Injection Moulding
The products appearance and performance exceeded expectations, as did it’s acceptance by Niton’s customers. Niton was able to secure orders for more than 100 analyzers. General Pattern immediately began construction of Rapid Tools for injection molds. In the interim, General Pattern produced fully functional salable units (from our polyurethane molding) providing Niton over £31,000,000 in immediate revenue.
